Air Madagascar is an airline based in Antananarivo, Madagascar. It is the national airline of Madagascar operating flights to 21 destinations, including Europe, Asia and neighboring Indian Ocean Island and African destinations.
The Air Madagascar was formed in 1947 to feed into flights by Transports Aériens Intercontinentaux and Air France, and upon the independence of Madagascar, it became the national airline. Air Madagascar originally operated services on domestic routes and eventually saw expansion in the 1960s and in 1961, it began to operate international flights to destinations such as France and South Africa.
Even though Madagascar is a small island, its airline operates an impressive 20 domestic routes to the country’s major and secondary cities, such as Toliara and Tolagnaro Fort Dauphin, as well as a range of popular tourist destinations such as Nosy Be and Sainte-Marie.
Air Madagascar has recently allowed its passengers somewhat more freedom with their luggage limitations.
In terms of their domestic flights, passengers are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23kg each
In terms of their Regional and international flights, passengers travelling in:
- Economy – are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23kg each.
- Premium economy – are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 32kg each.
- Business – are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 32kg each.
Air Madagascar does not currently offer a mobile or web check in, which means that you will have to go to the counter in order to check in.
When you are flying on a regional or international flight, you will have to check in at least two hours before the scheduled departure time of your flight. If you are travelling within Madagascar, you will only have to check in an hour before your scheduled flight.
