Air Namibia is the national flag carrier of Namibia and is based in the capital of Windhoek. The airline operates scheduled domestic, regional and international flights. It’s international hub in Windhoek Hosea Kutako and a domestic hub at the smaller Windhoek Eros Airport.
The airline was found in 1946 and at that time it was known as South West Air Transport. Following Namibia independence, the airline was renamed Air Namibia.
The airline is characterised by its fast growing network of regional and intercontinental destinations as it offers flights to over 36 destinations worldwide as well as connecting with over 17 European countries through Frankfurt. It also connects to North America via New York. The airline offers flights to 6 destinations in Africa and they offer flights domestically to 6 towns within Namibia.
The baggage allowances for Air Namibia are as follows:
- Passengers in economy class are allowed
- one piece of hand luggage of 8kg
- two pieces of checked luggage of 23kg each
- Passengers in business class are allowed
- two pieces of hand luggage of 8kg each
- two pieces of checked luggage of 32kg each.
Air Namibia offers their passengers a generous free hand luggage allowance. In addition to the free baggage allowance outlined above, the airline also allows passengers the free transport of one golf bag not exceeding 15kg (international Air Namibia flights only).
The airline operates three flights per day between Windhoek and Johannesburg, except for Tuesdays and Saturdays on which there are two flights. The airline also operates 3 flights per day between Windhoek and Cape Town except for Sundays on which there are two flights.
In 2011, Air Namibia won the award for the best Regional Airline of Southern Africa.
