Korongo Airlines was an airline from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was headquartered in Lubumbashi. It was founded on behalf of Brussels Airlines. The airline was established in 2009 and operated regional flights out of its based at Lubumbashi International Airport.
On 4 September 2015, Korongo Airlines stopped all operations as a result of both insufficient number of reservations as well as the damage that was sustained by the only airplane in the fleet a week earlier. The aircraft was a Boeing 737-300. The competitions with the newly formed Congolese competitor Congo Airways as well as the incident that involved the airplane were referred to as having caused the liquidation of the airline.
Korongo Airlines stated that it had not been able to expand to the proportions that were required in order to make it a practical long-term operation. The airline was not able to reach the desired profitability as a result of the lack of critical mass, operations that were based on the fleet of only one operating aircraft, which did not offer sufficient possibilities to remunerate the fixed costs of an airline operation respecting all international safety standards.
Korongo Airlines operated flights to about 6 routes and was not a member to any airline alliance. The airline also did not offer any loyalty programmes.
In May of 2013, Korongo Airlines operated scheduled flights to the following destinations:
- Democratic Republic of the Congo – Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Mbuji Mayi
- South Africa – Johannesburg
The airline offered flight from Johannesburg to Lubumbashi twice a week on Fridays and Sundays.
