Air Portugal is the flag carrier airline of Portugal. It is a member of the Star Alliance and is considered as the world’s fourth safest airline company. The airline currently operates a fleet which consists of 77 aircraft’s.
The airline was formed in 1945 under the name Transportes Aéreos Portugueses. It was found that their name was too difficult for foreign passengers to pronounce and as a result they shortened it to TAP Air Portugal and eventually settled on the name TAP Portugal as it is known today.
All Air Portugal flights are allowed to carry their luggage for free. The amount that each passenger can carry, however, depends on the travel class and the destination. This is calculated when you book your flight.
The airline operates from its hub at Lisbon’s Portela airport and you can get a direct Air Portugal flight to Lisbon from the following destinations in Africa:

Online check-in is allowed which helps you start your journey and print your boarding card. It is available 36 hours prior to your scheduled departure time except flights to the United States of America, which are available from up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.

Air Portugal provides a “Golf Friendly” option to its passengers in which they offer affordable golf club transportation. For flights within Eurpose, gold equipment weighing less that 17kg is charged at €20 per unit while equipment weighing more than 17kg is charged at €35 per unit. One unit constitutes as 1 golf bag that contains one set of golf clubs, golf balls and tees and 1 pair of golf shoes.
